Tom Club (Waits`favs+sound-alikes) by sssvnnn
There is only one TOM WAITS.
And sometimes it feels like he created his own genre placed somewhere between blues, chanson, rock, jazz, avantarde...
And sometimes you are trying to describe the sound of a certain musician by explaning: He is the (...new, young, former, italian, german, russian, folky, whatever...)TOM WAITS.
So here is the TOM CLUB:
If there were a genre "TOM WAITS" this is the music you could probably find there.
To make this chart as trustworthy as possible I start with Tom Waits` own top 20 besteveralbums as you can see on: http://www.theguardian.com/music/2005/mar/20/popandrock1.
Everyone may feel free to name some more artists for the TOM CLUB.

Since some years he´s doing quite nice Blues/Pop records.
This one is a live album and it may not be something special but I like it.
He sings his Hits with his smoky voice in a reaxed bluesy manner. OK [First added to this chart: 05/13/2014]

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.5/100, a mean average of 94.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 94.1/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 4.9.

Original and well thought out chart. Very interesting
The concept of this chart is really brilliant don't agree with all your selections but this chart is a breath of fresh air ! Thanks.
Even though I'm not a Tom fan, this is a very cool concept of a chart. I agree with Sinatra and Beefheart!
"Yellow Shark" of Frank Zappa js not my choice.
It is among Tom Waits´ favourite Top 20 albums.
The first 20 slbums of this chart are Tom Waits´ Top 20.
Never saw a nexus between Zappa and Waits before
would love to see a comment on that
interesting chart
Good album chart with some not so known albums i think it's good. And these artists i know are great so I give you 90 Points.
I think you should put some Howlin' Wolf in here. Probs one of the most obvious influences.
Tom Waits was born even before Colombus haha
Most of it I really don't know. That is great. So much to discover. And the idea of the chart is fantastic
The Scarlett Johansson Tom Waits cover album (show name escapes me at the time) makes for very good music to accompany a nice meal with friends. But I understand the issue of what to remove to give a place. Cudos for the Last Assassins, love that album.
