Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

You've got a pretty wide taste :o
I see everything from Blur, to Slint, to Kanye, and jazz.
I'm surprised by some of your picks though like is Life of Pablo Kanye's best album? I'm not trying to sway one way or another. So often you see the same albums over and over on the top 100 charts, so I'm always happy when someone breaks away from that. But I'd love to discuss some of your choices if you're ever interested. :)
