Top 100 Greatest Music Albums

I have finally gotten around to writing some notes for this chart. In my chart, I tried to keep a balance between the personal and idiosyncratic versus universal appeal. So other members can not only find unusual picks that they may never of heard of, but also see how I think those picks compare to albums that are more universally adored (Pet Sounds, i am talking about you). I hope this makes the chart useful and interesting to others.

It was important to me to include classical recordings and jazz recordings as well as pop/rock. I believe music is music (like Leonard Bernstein said)and I hope that their are many other people like me who find no contradiction between listening to Bach, or the Stones, or Chet Baker, or the Pixies, or Shostakovich. Obviously, i kept the number of classical and jazz recordings to a minimum because if I included all that I adore, they would have crowded out the Pop records and thus defeated the purpose of creating a dialogue with others.

Obviously i am biased- I love Nick Cave's entire career, though some parts of his discography are prickly and difficult. But this phase of his career and this album in particular is transcendent genius. I am shocked that this album is not on every music fans top 50. [First added to this chart: 09/17/2011]

Excellent list! I really appreciate the mix of obvious classics (Blonde on Blonde, London Calling) with some under-the-radar gems (Anodyne, Wide Swing Tremolo).

I like your Chart very much and I feel very familiar with the idea of mixing all styles and mixing personal picks with classical albums.
We don`t have too many albums in common, but the idea of my list is pretty similar to yours.

After a while a lot of charts on BEA start to look the same......... yours doesn't. Great variety and a lot of albums I love. Nick Cave is the most consistent songwriter of the last 25 years for my money. I think the problem is his albums are so consistently good that they split the vote.
