Top 40 Greatest Music Albums

I am a college student from Dallas, Texas. My favorite band is Radiohead and my favorite artist is Kendrick Lamar, by the way. (This list is to be completed, but let me know what you think thus far.)

If we take the music at face value, I'd pick OK Computer and The Dark Side of The Moon over this (though you can't go wrong with Runaway, Devil in a New Dress, All of the Lights, and even the Interlude). Those two albums continue to change music, society, and mankind (I can personally attest to their effect on my worldview). However, I humbly believe that My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy has built off those two albums' momentum for something even greater. His production is obviously genius; the way he synthesized certain musical sounds from every genre into one piece; his lyrics, while not articulate in an organic sense, are revolutionary because they're almost blatantly satirical and yet they continuously provide for serious & stimulating narratives. Moreover—and this one especially—the album certainly changed the way we perceive what an album is. Check out the stunning full-length film, brilliant paintings, creative music videos, etc. After a while, you might come to agree with me that this album pretty much serves as a paradigm manifestation of maximalist ideology at its finest, and that it has fundamentally changed the way many people (I included) approach their work—writing, in my case—as well as creative process. Thank you for everything, Kanye.

Until I really got into Kanye a few years ago, this was my favorite. Radiohead is my favorite band of all time and has been ever since I first heard Exit Music (For a Film). Shoutout to Fitter Happier, by the way, for predicting many future elements of our changing world.

From Time to Breathe to Us and Them to Money to Any Colour You Like to everything else, this album is ridiculous on both collective and individual levels. We all know influential this album is to virtually everybody and everything, so I'll keep this short.

As a privileged white boy who has never lived anywhere near poverty, I did not initially expect to relate with this album on such an intricate level, but Kendrick proved me wrong (though, obviously, it is still equally amazing how he uses this art to cast a spotlight on the obvious oppression and prejudice millions of people go through every day). Whenever I'm looking for lyrical inspiration while writing, I just start with "Momma" and go all the way through Mortal Man from there.

This album is BEAUTIFUL. My highlights, though I prefer to simply listen to the album from beginning to end, are Weird Fishes, All I Need, Reckoner, and Nude. Good thing it helped initiate streaming into the music industry, too.

I like IV the most but figured that simply providing Mothership would make things easier. Just like Radiohead's "Best Of," this compilation album simply is not as well arranged as it could be and all of that, but—despite its incohesivity—it has so so so many incredible songs.

Unfortunately, I am too young to properly appreciate this band's effect on its time (same goes for a lot of 20th-century music). I'll stick with 1, being a total Beatles novice (especially as this is so well-composed and ordered for a compilation album anyway).

Breathtaking acoustics, harmonies, and lyrics throughout the album. It is certainly cohesive, but I'll add that virtually every song other than Warning Sign, Cards & Quarters, and Sticky Thread can stand alone as a fantastic single. My favorites are Cubism Dream, Shape Shifter, and Who Knows Who Cares.

Exactly what the comment bellow says. Some great choices though, it's a unique chart and I respect it very much for that.
