Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by DJENNY (2020)

These are my favorites. 100 albums I would bring to a desert island. So many more I wish I could add.

For reference, I was born on September 30th, 1996. This explains the healthy representation of contemporary albums on my chart.

When I heard this album my sophomore year in high school I became obsessed with Frank Black's Interplanetary Surfer Rock.

This album is a melded immediately with my ADD-riddled mind. Each song traces back to punk roots through its brevity. After listening to the album the songs, rapid guitar licks and the absurdist lyrics are unable to leave my brain.

Favorite Track: Friction. Emerging out of the CBGB crowd, Television was one of the last bands of that era to release music, but all that time performing clubs helped the band concentrate on their sound. This album features a total eight songs each one has been crafted to perfection. Every time you hear it, it is like hearing it for the first time.

Good lord, this album kicks so much ass.

An album equivalent to a pub crawl on the town where each song is another bar you drunkenly stumble into.

Nine of Staten Islands' baddest rappers come together to pay homage to classic samurai films such as Shogun Assassin and The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin. Each member has such a distinct personality and strength that amalgamate into a very fun and versatile listen.

Track Pick: See You Again

I have always liked Tyler as a pop figure, however when it came to his music I was never impressed with anything more than a few singles. With Flower Boy, Tyler really seems to let his guard down, revealing intriguing shades of vulnerability and humanity.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 1% of charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a mean average rating of 94.0/100. The trimmed mean (excluding outliers) is 94.3/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 5.6.

A true joy for a chart! Especially love how much some of the shorter write-ups manage to say, capturing exactly what you love in very few words.

I may not be too much of a fan of the way you rate albums though. It raises a bit of questions of what you really like vs what you really love, is every 100/100 the same? (a topic I saw discussed much better by ForegroundNoise in Glitterboiii's chart)

But that will definitely not stop me for really enjoying your amazing chart! Will come back to pick up some of these!

Really good chart and varied. I don't know everything on it - especially the more recent stuff. But I did catch Idles at Glastonbury on TV and they looked mental.
Saw Nick Drake and was gonna suggest Elliot Smith but you are there already. Listen to more Sigur Ros and try a bit of Mogwai - Come On Die Young for ambient instrumental.
