Top 100 Greatest Music Albums
by DJENNY Unknown

These are my favorites. 100 albums I would bring to a desert island. So many more I wish I could add.

For reference, I was born on September 30th, 1996. This explains the healthy representation of contemporary albums on my chart.

As much as I rock with the music, Kanye has been banned from my chart. Don’t feel like talking about him or highlighting his work.

Favorite Track: Friction. Emerging out of the CBGB crowd, Television was one of the last bands of that era to release music, but all that time performing clubs helped the band concentrate on their sound. This album features a total eight songs each one has been crafted to perfection. Every time you hear it, it is like hearing it for the first time.

Good lord, this album kicks so much ass.

Track Pick: Bring Da Ruckus

Nine of Staten Islands' baddest rappers come together to pay homage to classic samurai films such as Shogun Assassin and The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin. Each member has such a distinct personality and strength that amalgamate into a very fun and versatile listen.

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 94.3/100, a mean average of 94.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 94.9/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.7.

Now there's some variety. Love the Black Sabbath at number one.

A nice chart that scans the decades ¬ although with only 4 albums in common, we walk to different musical beats.
I did notice that some of your fav picks & comments didn't match the actual album: eg The Doors, Lou Reed & Beach Boys.

Interesting list... showing an extraordinary wide range of musical interest. Within the differnet genres very concentrated on the usual expected mainstream releases... (dig deeper in the underground for the gems! ;-) ) and to be honest: There's a lot of music in that list that is really not my cup of tea... ;-) But I like this open minded view on music...

@mostlymor I think at least half the tracks rank among Kanye's best. We will see in a year, but I am loving everything I am hearing. It sounds like the next logical step in his musical/spiritual journey. I really don't understand why the critical reception has been so brutal.

Good stuff! Nice to see someone who enjoys rap and hip-hop as well as Prefab Sprout and Steely Dan. Will "Donda" repay your faith? I hope so.
