Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by bermolder Unknown

My FAVORITE** albums. Hence the apparent focus on certain genres and artists.
This is by no means a list of the "greats". That's far too difficult to quantify. So yes, it will be missing noteworthy artists who had a major impact on music throughout the ages. The listed albums have either spoken to me on a personal level, garnered points for nostalgia, or simply happen to be on repeat in the buds for reasons I cannot explain. They represent my personal go-to albums.

I encourage recommendations. There's a trove of wonderful undiscovered music out there.

My most played album. (IMO) In Rainbows is Radiohead poking fun at the innate, unavoidable oddities of being human. It's about feeling uncomfortable enough in your own skin that you 'bodysnatch' others. It's about trying to change but only making it '15 steps' before you revert back to your true self. It's about falling in love. But not the perfect misleading perception of love depicted in cinema. Rather, the kind of love where you venture up from the lonely ocean depths only to sink and get picked over by the worms and 'weird fishes'. But from your position on the ocean floor, you glimpse the refracted rays which extend down from above. I've always found each track to be relatable and true. Not all Radiohead albums are by definition "catchy". This one is, and is a great intro to the artist.

Favorite Tracks: Bodysnatchers, Jigsaw falling into place, Weird Fishes, House of Cards, etc.

PS. Wait for the bridge in bodysnatchers. The shift in layers is phenomenal.

In Rainbows 2.0. So obviously I'm pretty into it. The lyrics are more ambiguous. You've got to work to find some meaning in them. You will indeed find it. I've heard multiple interpretations for various tracks. In each case the listener extracted a seemingly personalized message, which makes the album all the more impressive.

"In you I'm lost"

Favorites: Present tense, Identikit, Decks Dark, Burn the Witch...etc. every. single. song.

I must've listened to Kid A twenty times before I liked it. I couldn't figure out why it topped every list ever made. Couldn't quite figure out the message. It was so different from In Rainbows, and came across as a flurry of unorganized sounds and ambient. All I can say is...give it time and give it a full playthrough. As the saying goes 'Kid A may not be your first Radiohead album, but it will be your last'.

Radiohead galore. I'm sorry. I am what I am. Exchanging this album for the sake of variety would simply be dishonest. If you find yourself thinking me unoriginal, look to the album's ratings and BEA's 'top albums of all time' for justification...all these RH albums are up there.

The Bends is great because it's the point where start to notice that something is different...the nucleation point of 'what is Radiohead'.
The semblance of 'rock' is there but you couldn't label it as rock.

"who are my real friends? have they all got the bends?"

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 14% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.4/100, a mean average of 88.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.0/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.8.

Nice chart indeed and a few less often seen artists/albums for me to check out ~ for which I thank you.

This is a decent chart, with a lot of classic choices from the 2000s and 2010s. Love that you've included Beach House's 'Bloom' in here!

Although there is something of a stereotypical pattern to this chart in its focus on 2000s alternative and 1970s progressive rock, both genres of inconsistent attraction at most to my ears, I do not think of it as remotely bad. There are enough surprising choices to maintain interest, and even some well-known choices that might not be expected (which I actually like).

Excellent chart, lots in common. I love your descriptions of the ska albums since you're a brass player, super cool thinking about music from that perspective.

Cool selection and nice effort. I was stoked to see Streetlight Manifesto up there, but a little less stoked about Kanye... Personally, i'm not crazy with some of your selections but as a whole your chart holds up especially with stuff like Flatliners, Catch 22, Common and the moe obvious like Arctic Monkeys and the Strokes, etc...

A good friend of mine turned me on to Streetlight Manifesto last year. Some amazing drumming, indeed.
