Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by bermolder Unknown

My FAVORITE** albums. Hence the emphasis on certain genres and artists.
This is by no means a list of the greats. That's far too difficult to quantify. The listed albums have either spoken to me on a personal level, garnered points for nostalgia, or simply happen to be on repeat in the buds for reasons I cannot explain. They represent my personal go-to albums.

I encourage recommendations. There's a trove of wonderful undiscovered music out there.

My most played album. (IMO) In Rainbows is Radiohead poking fun at the innate, unavoidable oddities of being human. It's about feeling uncomfortable enough in your own skin that you 'bodysnatch' others. It's about trying to change but only making it '15 steps' before you revert back to your true self. It's about falling in love. But not the perfect misleading perception of love depicted in cinema. Rather, the kind of love where you venture up from the lonely ocean depths only to sink and get picked over by the worms and 'weird fishes'. But from your position on the ocean floor, you glimpse the refracted rays which extend down from above. I've always found each track to be relatable and true. Not all Radiohead albums are by definition "catchy". This one is, and is a great intro to the artist.

Favorite Tracks: Bodysnatchers, Jigsaw falling into place, Weird Fishes, House of Cards, etc.

PS. Wait for the bridge in bodysnatchers. The shift in layers is phenomenal.

For me, Is This It is the definition of fun. Every track is a single.
The untrying, bored tone of Julian. The precision of Valencia. The organization of Hammond. The culminating sound is unique and infectious. It's rock for the new age. As an adult, I still find myself singing along in the car, unabashed by the glances of fellow morning commuters whom I like to pretend ponder the very question... "Is This It?"

The quintessential ska album. The most played album of my youth, and it still holds up. Everything Goes Numb comprises twelve anthems revered by anyone who knows ska. Compelling lyrics backed by a small army of brass and punk-ish harmonies. Each song tells a story, touching on life, death, suicide, even incorporating a heist. With this, Ska evolved beyond 'tweens at a pizza party'.
Finally, pay attention to the drums. Chris Thatcher is ridiculously talented and deserves recognition as one of the best.

"please excuse my enemies, I think they do not know... I will gladly self destruct if they leave me alone"

Short and sweet with a good balance of heavy rocking and acoustic punk ballads. A throwback to Gabel in full angst.

Funeral is growing up. It's reminiscent daydreams of carving snow tunnels to your friend's house. It's about falling in love with someone who does not wear the 'crown of love' themselves. It's about making mistakes, getting hurt, and 'waking up' to learn that such pains are important for growth. You can tell Regine and Butler really give their all.

What a debut. I feel this album often draws comparisons to Is This It? and for good reason...they're both a ton of fun. Rock for the new age leaden with british vernacular. I must say, there's something inexplicably captivating about a thick british accent for us folk across the pond. Be sure to look beyond 'I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor' on this one.

"Well they might wear classic Reeboks, or knackered Converse, or tracky bottoms tucked in socks. But all of that's what the point is not. The point's that there ain't no romance around there"

The first half of Med Sud is uplifting and what I feel to be Sigur Ros' most accessible works. Following "Festival" the tempo slows, which I initially considered a loss in momentum. But give it a chance. Although slow-paced, the second half is mesmerizing. Find some grass on a sunny day, lay down, and pop in the buds.

Modernized 60's soul.
Dinner party? Back to Black. Walking the pup? Back to Black. Drive to the cottage?
Back to Black applies to all situations. You can toss it on anywhere. It's pleasant and funky, despite bearing darkly themes of addiction and failed romances. No track skips required.

Continuum is a solid album through and through. Sure, the themes lack complexity and it can be pretty corny. BUT Mayer's voice is one of butter. It's rather contagious. A great guitar player as well, just check out his trio. There's a bluesy soul feel to each song and a very easy listen overall. I like to pop it on on the way home from a cottage to bring vibes down to more of a simmer.

Vultures, I dont trust myself, Slow dancing in a burning room.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 17% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.3/100, a mean average of 88.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.0/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.0.

This is a decent chart, with a lot of classic choices from the 2000s and 2010s. Love that you've included Beach House's 'Bloom' in here!

Although there is something of a stereotypical pattern to this chart in its focus on 2000s alternative and 1970s progressive rock, both genres of inconsistent attraction at most to my ears, I do not think of it as remotely bad. There are enough surprising choices to maintain interest, and even some well-known choices that might not be expected (which I actually like).

Excellent chart, lots in common. I love your descriptions of the ska albums since you're a brass player, super cool thinking about music from that perspective.

Cool selection and nice effort. I was stoked to see Streetlight Manifesto up there, but a little less stoked about Kanye... Personally, i'm not crazy with some of your selections but as a whole your chart holds up especially with stuff like Flatliners, Catch 22, Common and the moe obvious like Arctic Monkeys and the Strokes, etc...
