In technical music terms, the band have some really nice dynamics with their instruments. and they are so exact with their timing, but apart from the shifting odd time signatures and bars not adding up and confusing structures, this album is really quite simple.it is just straining vocals, guitars, bass and drums and not much else. and if you have seen them live (i havent) you will know they have no musical expression and just stand there still, playing.
what this album does have however, is one of the darkest atmospheres i have ever listened to, i am convinced the band are all bats. i guess the album cover helps in this, but its mainly just that repetetive thick, muddy, draining, distorted guitar and then over the top of that theres the haunting half spoken word half singing, with lyrics that are half stories half poems. most of the time i dont even have a clue what hes on about

and sat down. I thought about it for a minute, and asked her
if she would rather go on the roller coaster instead."
... what?, but this just adds to the eerieness of the album, and i find the stories really creative even if i dont understand them. then youve got the groovy, soft but threatening bass. not to mention the drums,so perfectly in time and complex, weaving through the rest of the instruments.
from start to finish, everytime i listen to it im always getting the same experience. the finisher "good morning, captain" is really the best song i have ever heard...
if i had to describe this album it would probably be "recorded in the devils garage"
