This album hits your from the opening chords of Everything In Its Right Place all the way through. How to Disappear Completely is one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I have ever heard. The album is an experience that captures you with every note and you can't steer away. [First added to this chart: 01/09/2013]

Even though serious songs on this album, such as There is a Light That Never Goes Out is a little silly. Other songs like Bigmouth Strikes Again or Some Girls are Bigger Than Others just makes you laugh. There is an obvious sense of humor on this album but should still be taken very seriously. Sufjan's voice is gentle, and is shows on the slower songs more than anything. But his voice is still able to handle more epic tracks with great production and scale. [First added to this chart: 04/28/2013]

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 85.4/100, a mean average of 83.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 85.3/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 11.5.

Dude awesome list! The top four were fantastic. We have 31 in common and your chart is only 50 albums. I can't even imagine once you get it to 100.

Good mix of each decade, keeps the list interesting. Lots of stuff I'd expect with a few surprises. Seems personal, but still accessible. Basically, a really good chart.

With a few exceptions (Beatles, Led Zeppelin) has a lot of super duper elitist stuff. Is that by design or...?
