For a moment, I debated on the inclusion of Signals here. Not because it isn’t a good record, not by any means as it’s one of my favorite albums ever. I was moreso questioning the prog qualifications of the record compared to the majority of the other records on this list.
Upon some thought, of course Signals deserves representation on a prog list. Even though the band was beginning their full-on, head-first dive into their synth era, they used those elements tastefully to expand the Rush sound and continued exploring sonic landscapes. They are still writing in odd time on the phenomenal deep track Losing It and the album’s best known song Subdivisions alike. To top things off there iiiis a band-confirmed concept to this album basically about the growth of a child into young adulthood and into old age, in turn representing the band feeling themselves shifting into a new era of their lives and career.
