Recently Departed: 2023 by Moondance
Dateline 11 August 2023:
I was deeply saddened that 2 of my favourite singer/songwriters - Robbie Robertson & Sixto Rodriguez - both with albums in my top 100 chart - had passed on the same day, 2 days ago - 9 August 2023.
Looking back at the year, I realised that so many amazing songwriters & musicians, who have made my life richer, have passed - and so I thought it would be appropriate to create a chart to recognise and thank them.
This will be a work in progress - beginning with Rodriguez & Robertson - my fear is that a chart of only 100 will not be enough to honour all of them.
Dateline 2 January 2024
2023 has now passed and I have 100 recording artists listed in this chart - I have listed them in order - corresponding to the degree to which I have been enriched by their creativity, songwriting and musical brilliance. May their legacy shine long.

Les was an original member and pianist for Gerry And The Pacemakers. He was involved in all of their 6 studio albums released between 1963 - 1967.
Sadly, Les was the last surviving member of Gerry And The Pacemakers - a band that had three consecutive UK no.1 hits with 'How Do You It?'; 'I Like It'; & 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. Another major hit for the band was 'Ferry Cross The Mersey'. [First added to this chart: 11/30/2023]
I have only more recently become aware of Len's body of work as a result of his association with an emerging Bob Dylan circa 1962-63. I have found his songs & voice & delivery to be most captivating (and I regret that I didn't get 'into' him much earlier.
Burt is credited with writing over 70 US top 40 hits & having 1000 different artists recording his songs. Certainly an icon of the modern music era. [First added to this chart: 08/20/2023]

Terry was a founding member & vocalist for the 60's band 'The Association' - who released 7 studio albums between 1966 - 1972.
Terry wrote 'Cherish' - which reached no.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart [First added to this chart: 10/16/2023]
In the late 50's/early 60, Wee Willie was affectionately known as 'Britain's wild man of rock 'n' roll'. [First added to this chart: 08/17/2023]
b: 12 November 1939/d: 2 January 2023 - age 83
Active between the late 50's/early 60's in the Merseyside area, Kingsize Taylor And The Dominoes released one album in 1963 under the pseudonym 'The Shakers'. Kingsize provided lead vocals & guitar.
Two interesting facts about 'Kingsize Taylor & The Dominoes':
a. - in January 1961, at the Cavern Club (Liverpool), the band featured an unknown 17 year old named Cilla White as a guest singer. Cilla White was later to become better known (and much more famous) as Cilla Black;
b. - around mid 1962, Ringo Starr was offered the opportunity to join KT&TD as drummer, but declined the offer as he was offered more money to join an emerging Merseyside called 'The Beatles'. [First added to this chart: 08/19/2023]
