Post subject: What are some essential Punk albums from any decade?
I've been really interested in getting into Punk. I know some of the big albums like Nevermind the Bollocks and London Calling, but outside of those select few, I'm not really sure where to start. One recent Punk band I like are Turnstile. Any recommendations for this newbie? Thanks for any suggestions in advance!
Also what are the identifiers of a Punk band or album? Is it the attitude? I'm a bit confused when it comes to identifying when something is Punk, since Punk has quite a few styles that I'm unfamiliar with.
Then at the beginning of the 80's, punk split into a couple of groups. Some former punk groups like The Clash became more "New Wave" or "Post Punk" and other bands during this time period started to be called "Hardcore punk. I'll just give you the essentials of the 80's that have not already been mentioned.
I could probably add a number 30 or so bands for this part, but this is already way too much. Next is Post- Hardcore, but if you want me to add more from the 90's through the 2000's I could do so.
I don't really listen to a lot of - I guess the canonized- punk anymore, and I'm not sure where the line ends, but some classic, canonized "punk" records I still listen to with some frequency would be
In my opinion, these are the very best ever (in order from top to bottom). I've included both punk and close precursors/descendents.

I know in terms of this century there's significantly less to choose from but I think this album is pretty ambitious and is definitely worth noting. Some might disagree but it feels massive!
If you enjoyed Gun Club's stuff, give this one a go. I just love it! It's visceral and gorgeous at the same time. _________________ Some RYM paraphernalia:
