In fact I personally find this album a surprisingly good hit.
Deliberately or not, Mariah Carey has rid of the melodramatic quality in her vocal performance, which I find very pleasing as it's sounding genuinely sincere. With that level of performance, the last song, Portrait, proves to be a blast tinkered with her chrisma; it's among the best ballads I've heard in years.
If it weren't for the rockism that permeates the community, perhaps this would have been as highly regarded as Justin Timberlake's best works.
