Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.2/100, a mean average of 70.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.2.

I had no idea they had a new one.
So it’s 2020 and the deluxe edition of this album has surfaced with 9 fresh tracks demo’d but not making the final cut. Is there a hidden gem amongst this lot ? I’m afraid not. Unfortunately it’s more of the same only worse with largely bland tracks accompanied by nothing lyrics whilst the awful Pazification of Pixies music continues unabated
Sad to say this once mighty band is getting into Weezer/ Green Day late career strike out territory
This isn’t a terrible album, but it’s not terribly good either
It all just feels and sounds so incredibly safe with sparking clean production you could eat your lunch off. Where are the unfiltered guitars? Where are the sicko lyrics about murder , incest and mayhem? Slicing up eye balls? More like slicing up bread ? I guess with 5 children in tow Charles Thompson the 3rd is mellowing with life as a family man .Even the title ‘Underneath The Erie’ is uninteresting so named because drummer David Lovering spotted an eagles nest close to the recording studio in the Catskills Mountains
The one track I did find interesting was Daniel Boon about a man who dies when his car hits a deer , it’s apparently an accompaniment to the track “Caribou “ from ‘Come On Pilgrim’ their very first release back in 1987
Not only is this good for Post-hiatus Pixies, but this is also just a straight-up good album. Good hooks, solid songwriting, appropriate production, and the gothic aesthetic pays off nicely.
Favs: On Graveyard Hill, Catfish Kate, This is My Fate, Silver Bullet, Long Rider, St. Nazaire
Nah, son: Ready For Love, Los Surfers Muertos
This album is exiting. I have the same feeling I have with this album as when I first listened to Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde. Of course nothing can beat Surfer Rosa/Come On Pilgrim and Doolittle but this one is really in the same league of the two latter albums unlike the other post-hiatus albums.
I really get a good feeling listening for the first time to this album and there is not one track below par. Although I really miss Kim Deal this is as good as it gets and will end up high in my year list.
This is easily the best thing they’ve done Post-hiatus. Yes, that’s a low bar. But don’t let it distract you from the big step forward on Beneath the Eyrie
Thank Christ this one's decent. Still not classic Pixies, but the songwriting and sound of the album is far more focused and refined this time.
Not as unrecognisable as Indie Cindy, not as laughable as Head Carrier. Solid, solid, album.
