On their second full-length, The Score still tries to find their place within the broad landscapes of modern pop rock music. Their blend of Imagine Dragons-esque arena rock and more mainstream techno tunes make for an energetic, yet safe effort. The best songs are those that openly embrace an edgier rock sound, such as the album opener and Stronger, and the emotional ones, such as Comeback. The less successful attempts are those made to appeal wider audiences, as in the songs featuring guest artists.
Fine vocals and a hard-hitting energy is what The Score excels at, but their safe and repetitive melodies and fairly shallow lyrics drag their potential down a bit. A good example is Fire, which works well in the verses but falls apart in the chorus. Unfortunately, the album leans slightly more towards the pop aesthetic, which makes this one less enjoyable compared to their debut. Most song also sound too alike, so by the end of the album I had forgotten the majority of the songs.
