There's certainly an undefinable quality to all of Sun Ra's music, from the most avant-garde to the most soothing to the ears. If I could include all the works of his I love, there would be little room for other albums on this list. The most enigmatic and lasting jazz presence in my mind sits down on this album to conjure up images of after-show improvisations in seedy smoky bars with a band with their eyes on the stars. Think of it as the beginnings of a Twilight Zone episode: a period piece quickly gives way to stranger occurrences.
