At the present writing, Frank Zappa/Mothers of Invention top my list of most featured artist on my personal wish list. I'm just starting to get into his albums but what I am familiar with indicates he/they may soon be added to my favorites.

If there is one artist that truly defines the word "unique", it would be Frank Zappa. From upbeat comedy rock classics such as "Freak Out!", "Apostrophe (')", “Over-Nite Sensation” and "One Size Fits All", to complex jazz fusion records such as "Hot Rats" and "The Grand Wazoo", he and his backing band's legacy lives on in the hearts of many. This man went on to release 62 studio albums over the years, though his creativity started to fade after the disbandment of The Mothers of Invention in 1975. Still, most of the stuff released from 1966 up until the mid-70s were strong enough to earn him a place among the greatest.

There is no appropriate rating for Frank Zappa. "Outstanding" is maybe a word that describes him. Outstanding as musician, as guitar player, as artist, as visonary, as person.
Totally underrated for his guitar works. His guitar solos are technically astonishing and suprising. He could play all different kinds of styles and tones. My personal favorite guitar player.
And the duo George Duke/Frank Zappa (together with Chester Thompson on drums) is unbeatable. What they did live on stage... You can't do that anymore. Impossible
