"Once Upon A Time" - a brilliant way to start off an album that was a true game-changer.
The lyrics are phenomenal. Music is great too.
Favorite Tracks: title track, Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues, Like A Rolling Stone, Ballad Of A Thin Man, Tombstone Blues, Desolation Row.
"They're selling postcards of the hanging" ...

Favorite Tracks: Tomorrow Never Knows, She Said, She Said, And Your Bird Can Sing, Taxman, Here, There and Everywhere.
I pretend that Yellow Submarine isn't on the Album.
Such a variety of songs - all wonderfully done. This album marks the Beatles transition from being a bit too much of a poppy/boy band to being great artists. Rubber Soul showed the first signs of the progression - this was "making it".

I have been listening to this album for 30 plus years and it never gets old.
An absolute gem. So accessible and melodic yet so far out and experimental.
Everything fits together so perfectly.
Favorite songs: Everything except Money fits seamless together and is mind-blowing. Money is simply mind-blowing.

Keith Moon and John Entwistle achieve rock god status on this album. The percussion work is obscene. The bass playing extraordinary. Great concept album. Perfectly executed. [First added to this chart: 06/20/2013]

This album has such a wonderful feel/vibe to it. So heart felt. Moving. The bass work on the album is interesting, distinctive and serves as a quality backbone for the sound.

This album starts out kicking plenty of ass ... then you get to Hang On To Yourself, Ziggy Stardust and Suffragette City and the ass-kicking takes on epic proportions. This is criminally good song-writing and the definitive glam rock album.
Favorite Tracks: Lady Stardust, the three mentioned above, Starman, Five Years, Soul Love ...sheesh - the whole damn thing is great.

Another definitive rock album. Hard to imagine rock music as a genre without this album as a cornerstone. The teen angst, the power chords, Keith stinkin' Moon, the f'n Who ...

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.9/100, a mean average of 90.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 90.4/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.7.

i really like your chart.
i took a real close look at it when i seen quadrophenia and high violet rated high in the list. these are 2 of my favourites. so i decided to read your personal comments- love them and wish there were more. i have never been a funk guy but im leaving your list with the intention of listening to sly and the family stone- these guys pop up regularily. im going to check them out. also im surprised that i didnt see more stones, your description of some girls was dead on- so i know your very familiar with their music. no big deal.
thanks for posting such a fantastic list.
