This album has such a wonderful feel/vibe to it. So heart felt. Moving. The bass work on the album is interesting, distinctive and serves as a quality backbone for the sound.

Painting with sound. Great musicianship. Coltrane somehow tapped into an alternate universe and brought us this masterpiece to enjoy on this earth. [First added to this chart: 06/20/2013]

A motherlode of terrific sounding songs with Dylan's thought provoking lyrics, story-telling and imagery. To me this feels like chapters 2 and 3 of Highway 61 Revisited.

I have loved the songs on this album since grade school. Music that is now part of my DNA. "I Wish" is so stinkin' perfect. "Sir Duke" with the great horns is a masterpiece. "Pastime Paradise" has been lifted so many times it is now iconic. [First added to this chart: 06/20/2013]

Music needed an enema after the 80s. Nirvana came and reminded everyone that rock music was about passion, angst, feedback, and amplifiers
... not a bunch of pansies whining about every damn time they stubbed their toe.

I had friends who certainly were more into the Pixies back when "Doolittle" came out than I was at the time. A couple of the tracks I really enjoyed but the album struck more of a chord with me years later when I would go back and listen to it first through last cut. This album has a great attitude to it. Lots of creativity and quite a variety of songs here. In general though - it simply rocks. [First added to this chart: 06/26/2013]

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.9/100, a mean average of 90.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 90.4/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.7.

i really like your chart.
i took a real close look at it when i seen quadrophenia and high violet rated high in the list. these are 2 of my favourites. so i decided to read your personal comments- love them and wish there were more. i have never been a funk guy but im leaving your list with the intention of listening to sly and the family stone- these guys pop up regularily. im going to check them out. also im surprised that i didnt see more stones, your description of some girls was dead on- so i know your very familiar with their music. no big deal.
thanks for posting such a fantastic list.
