Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Nice chart but there’s not a lot of love for the 20th century. You’re missing some awesome albums especially from the 70’s.

Sincerely great taste, even if you overcommit to the lesser work in certain artist's catalogues who're already overrepresented in the list – but I kind of get the "who cares? I love Interpol" energy. Perfect From Now On and Lonesome Crowded West in the top 10 and that The Sound album top 50 is very cool.

With how great this list is I'm shocked you have Aeroplane over the Sea on your ' worst albums' chart. Must be a personal reason? You have tons of other wonderful indie rock albums included here though. Love how high you've put Marquee Moon and I just listened to Fake Can Be Just as Good as by Blonde Redhead again, really good! Great list!

Has little variety. Too many 90's and 00's and nothing to balance them. Besides that, is this it is in the top and it just makes it more obvious. This is just my opinion.

Thanks for the recs! I finally listened to "Golevka" today (you had already rec'ed it to me a while back). Nice post-rock album. I still prefer Explosions in the Sky or Do Make Say Think in the same genre. I'll definitely listen to it again and check the other album out.
