by Kleinfall
My top 50 albums of all time list. I would love some ratings/feedback/suggestions/whatever. The list is definitely still a work in progress.

Top 50 Greatest Music Albums ratings
Average Rating = (n ÷ (n + m)) × av + (m ÷ (n + m)) × AVwhere:

AV = the site mean average rating.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 86.6/100, a mean average of 86.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 86.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.4.

Great chart, a lot of albums I love in there and I have been thinking about buying some music by Modest Mouse, as it features pretty high in your chart, I think I will take that as a recommendation.

You're younger than me by only one month ! :O Good top ten, I like all those albums. Rest of the list is nice too. You could do with experimenting a little in other genres though ! But I do like seeing a Beastie Boys album, even if it is 23rd.
Overall I'm impressed you listed 50, that was too daunting for me. I'm confused if my top 15 is even realistic to my feelings.

I like most of these. You certainly can't argue with the quality of these albums although the list does suffer a bit from the usual suspects aka Naples syndrome, as it's known around these parts (especially the top 10). It's refreshing to see Yankee Hotel Foxtrot ranked highly.

covecove, I have actually considered moving some of the Beatles albums down a little bit but haven't done so yet because I am still unsure about how far I should move them down. Definitely still tweaking the list. Appreciate the comment.
