Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

very strong chart
Btw i was the first person here who had the Sound in the chart! Lovely chart and yes i believe english post/punk is more superior. Mixing jazz and rock is always lil bit dangerous, you are missing alot of GREAT jazz albums.

commercial or not those albums are my favorite right now, and i definitely prefer the music of the last 20 years, because it's simply my decades (i'm 26) and i don't think that there have been better music in the 60s/70s than in the 90s/00s ... far from that.
Anyway, i've only listened to the The Chameleons from the bands you've mentioned as "influential", and i liked a lot Script of The Bridge, so i'm going to explore more their discography soon.

Yea, I was hoping for a Top 100, at least. I haven't heard of The Dodos or Beirut, so I'll check them out. But the lesser know works I meant are by The Comsat Angels and The Sound, who both took the music of Joy Division to new heights (as well as The Chameleons, of course).
