If Titus Andronicus are anything, they're ambitious. All you have to do is listen to The Monitor to see that, a one-hour+ long album that uses the Civil War as a metaphor for lead singer Patrick Stickles' life. So yea, you don't see that every day. And now we have The Most Lamentable Tragedy, just when you thought they couldn't get bigger, Titus Andronicus releases a 90-minute+ rock opera, loaded with story after story and style after style, whether it's firey punk rock, Springsteen-style 80s American rock, or some kind of Wagnerian Meat Loaf style rock, it's all over the place here. Now, normally, one would look at this, a 90-minute+ rock opera that's all over the place stylistically, and say "this is going to be so hectic and over-the-top", but the beauty is that it isn't. Titus Andronicus handle and execute the whole thing really well. The album doesn't feel too overly theatrical or like the band overstepped their bounds, they did it exceptionally well. The length, unfortunately, works against them at times, as the album gets a little long, but it doesn't detract from the album too much. It's an impressive, ambitious piece of work. @dbz - yea dude, the new Atkins is pretty sweet too.

@mecca - I think I need to relisten to the U.S. Girls album, I liked it a lot, might eventually crack the top-100.

Man, you put some serious work into this. All those informative notes. I think the bulk of these that I know would fall into my own honorable mentions chart if I made one. Was surprised Sleater Kinney and US Girls couldn't crack your top 100.
