Like Pizza, Hate Home, Miss Girl - History of Pop Punk

Alright, so this is a work in progress by all means. If you have any "But Ben, there's this obscure 1979 comp of pop punk" or "But Ben, you forgot Taking Back Sunday!" (which I actually did on the first draft of this), just leave it below or something.

There are more albums for later years mostly because there were more albums released those years - in 1978, you've got maybe 10 pop punk records coming out if you really scour, whereas in 1995, you've go WAY more.

Because I'm trying to do fair representations one year at a time, if you're interested in what cool is currently happening in pop punk, skip to the very end. If you're interested in the roots, start at the start.

The Ramones are the roots of the genre that are removed enough from it I can't find it in my heart to include them.

The first pop punk I ever heard was a CD my close friend made me when I moved. It contained "Ocean Avenue", "Vertigo", "Wake Me Up When September Ends", and a 4th song forever lost in time.

So this was sort of an impossible year to only pick 2 albums for, so I didn't. In a year where Mr T Experience put out their best album, Mighty Mighty Bosstones revolutionized the ska side of pop punk, and Blink and Jimmy Eat World started, Dookie will definitely be the best remembered pop punk album, and perhaps the best remembered album of 94 in general. Awesome chart. Love seeing Motion City Soundtrack get some recognition (since they're one of my favorite bands and I think they're really underrated within the genre). I saw them with Sorority Noise earlier this year, who were also fantastic, so seeing that album here is great as well. Not to mention, you covered the foundation of pop punk quite well.
