Although I always try to put as much attention as possible to the music when I listen to a record, I always find myself doing something else additionally. Sometimes it's like reading a passage in a book while thinking of something else, so you have to reread the whole passage. With a few exceptions, not even my favourite albums are so immersive that I can just sink into the music. I'm using the term "immersive" for a reason, because Uhrwald Orange is truly immersive. Uhrwald Orange isn't only a reference to the German title of A Clockwork Orange but also a worldplay on "Urwald". You could translate it with "jungle", which wouldn't quite fit, word by word it would be something like "ancient jungle". Urwald is a special kind of jungle, the deep, dark thicket of an undiscovered, foreign land. The kind of jungle where you get lost in, lose track of space and time and scattered sounds from all sides slowly drive you insane ... that's the kind of musical immersion that Sebastian Lee Philipp provides on this record. He only sings on three of the eight tracks, the 80 minute experience is almost instrumental. Guitar licks, organic percussions and oriental synth-snippets - over and over and over again. The monotony on this record can be mesmerizing, nerverecking, intense, even groovy - the sinsiter krautrock is definetly no everyday listen, but a listen that I recommend to everyone.

The most prominent genre within Germanys youth in the tens clearly was hip hop. I never got the appeal of German hip hop, it sounded brutal, sexist and dumb (but even I had to acknowledge the eloquency of German rappers) - that didn't change, as I became openminded about musical genres. Only OG Keemo managed to really impress me. This album was praised as the German TPAB moment by media. While Keemo's bars are outer-worldly and display the ups and downs of his Gangsta lifestyle as a Black indivual in Germany, the cool, beat-heavy production by Funkvater Frank really makes this hip hop record so outstanding, that I won't believe that it was made in Germany.

You connect with music even more, when the lyrics are in your native tongue - at least that's what I experience with this raw, aggressive post punk record. The lyrics picture personal hopelessness and a deep void in a frightening way while they also give a small insight into the socio-political situation of a country that fears the foreign.
