Preoccupations' - or Viet Cong, as they were formerly known as - debut album has nothing to add to the already extremely diverse musical landscape of the '10s. Fuck, it hasn't even something to add to the genre of post punk. But this unbelievably destructive musical landscape that you find yourself being thrown into with the tramping opening track Newspaper Spoons, and that continues to crunch you throughout the whole nine tracks, has really convinced me, that this has to be not only one of my favourite album of the decade, but the best post punk record ever, 30 years after the genre's decline. Yes, this is even more nihilistic than Joy Division. On some points, Viet Cong is just heavy noise, on other moments, it's almost catchy. An album like a dentist drill.

In 2015, there was no way to escape the hype of To Pimp A Butterfly. At that time, I wasn't into hip hop at all - enjoying Eminem and Macklemore, the stuff on the radio. With the release of TPAB, I was finally forced to open my eyes to what this genre is capable of. TPAB is one monstrosity of a hip hop concept album, with Kendrick expressing himself both as selfreflecting as usual, but also politically, in a preacher-like position. Kendrick took inspiration from virtually any genre that one could consider "black" - soul, funk, jazz, R&B. As time goes by, the statement of this record only grows more important and I am confident that TPAB will go down as THE record of the decade.

Noel had me with the cheeky "nanananana"-chrous on the first single In The Heat Of The Moment. I knew that he would release some really good tunes of fresh guitar rock. Furthermore, I really appreciate him as a songwriter, considering he wrote some of the biggest hymns of modern rock music. The subtle use of sax and slightly psychedelic experimentations on Chasing Yesterday present Noel on his prime. Although I love Oasis and the stuff they put out in the 90s, I'm so glad that they broke up, so Noel could reinvent himself and create this album.

I just checked this album out because I liked the cover. Boy was I lucky to do that. Most tunes on Get To Heaven could easily be played on mainstream radio while still please alternative music critics. One of the finest progressive pop records of this decade.

A turning point and breakthrough for this Austrian collective. Middle Europa was shaken when they entered the scene alongside the other big "new austropop" band Wanda in late 2014. So fresh, so cool, so Falco. It's cheap to state Bilderbuch as being the heir to Falco, but their music is cleary inspired and has the same verve. Funky meets melancholy, always with cheesy lyrics. The oversaturation of bling, style, glam and chiq on this record is what's making it Bilderbuch's best effort to date. They went on to make less instrumental, more internet music, Schick Schock will forever be the perfect summer album.
