Top 100 Music Albums of 2016 by

2016 snapshot
Every album I listen to will be included on here, even if I hated it. You may also notice some higher rated albums in the comments, while some albums I hated are still featured in the chart. This is because I create my yearly charts as "snapshots" of the music scene from that year. From these I create my decade charts, where you will find no filler. Basically anything rated 60% or higher I recommend depending on your tastes.

10 Day and Acid Rap are two of the greatest mixtapes of all time, easily. Coloring Book was not the direction I expected him to take. I never thought Chance would end up making crappy party songs with 2 Chainz and Lil Yachty, he seemed to take pride in his unique approach to hip-hop. I hope working with Kanye so much and becoming a household name doesn't shift his sound permanently into what we got with Coloring Book. Acid Rap and 10 Day were amazing because it was something different. I guess only time will tell.
With that said, Coloring book wasn't awful by any means, it has some highlights for sure like Same Drugs, or both of the Blessings tracks. It's just filled with a lot of shitty party tracks like All night and Mixtape. It takes a gospel approach on many songs which was obviously Kanye's idea after making Ultralight Beam, except none of the tracks on CB were even remotely as good as Ultralight Beam. Even Chance's verse on Ultralight Beam was better than basically all of his verses on here.
He has a lot of talent, I hope going mainstream doesn't mean he's just going to start following the rest of the mainstream. He has enough personality and talent to be one of the pioneers in hip-hop and be a trend starter like Kanye as opposed to following trends Kanye (or others) already started.
light - decent 6 [First added to this chart: 03/30/2019]
