A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. A truly cool collection of music. Number one IS the greatest album ever, Kiss Alive is a GREAT record and for every album I question (Raising Sand) you throw in an awesome omission on my part (Weight). Instant favorite. Bravo!
