Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 81.0/100, a mean average of 79.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.0/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 26.4.

Music to give myself a headache to? No thanks.
Your Top 7 is good, and you've got a handful of other albums that I like, but after that the over-reliance on abrasive noise is a big turn off. Why listen to most of these albums when I can just go stand in front of the nearest construction site & listen to the jackhammers and chainsaws for free?
Btw, the painful tinnitus you'll have in 20 years won't be fun. Trust me.
@Amirkhosro It really is. I wonder why they're not talked about more. Yes, one could say they took a lot from the Birthday Party (who wouldn't lol) but you can't deny the unique power of this band. The movement and momentum in their sound.. I feel like throwing myself against the walls each time I hear them. David W Sims + Rey Washam has to be the most powerful combo in rock music.
Came here because I was listening to Goat, saw Scratch Acid up there and started listening to it for the first time. Best decision I could have made. This is phenomenal.
No the easy listening choices...
Individual, diverse choice, an advantage for the viewers who are ready to wideo their horizons
Really interesting chart.
A really great chart full of interesting artists and albums !
Awesome list. Impressive selection of creative adventurous pieces. Well curated list of masterpieces.
Wonderfully varied chart, look forward to digging into some of these I'm less familiar with
@sssvnnn haha. I love nice melodic songs too. There are many featured in this chart. Some are melodic AND noisy. It's rock music, after all. Little Richard was very noisy.
But you're right, I could've included Pet Sounds and more Beatles. Brian Eno, Stevie Wonder, Big Star and Cheap Trick almost made it too. Then there's a lot of pre-70s popular music I love, from Buddy Holly to Motown, people who were focused on writing singles to play on the radio, not on conceiving whole LPs (which is this site's whole thing). If this was a favorite songs list, they would be represented. As would Burt Bacharach, for instance.
