Weirdly disgusting and beautiful like no other record. Freak blues taken to the extreme, and the pop music industry never recovered.

Pretty much the pinnacle of sophisticated pop music, even more so than the Beach Boys, somehow.

Rock's first double album, apparently (though perhaps not really), and Dylan's masterpiece. His lyricism became more personal and poetic rather than lyrical and critical, and the music became realer than ever.

More consistent than its legacy might imply. "Revolution 9" is the perfect album climax. The only thing holding it back is that its various styles feel like parody sometimes rather than a respectful push toward something new, like Revolver achieved.

I can't quite call this the perfect pop album--the Beatles bested it some months later, and I could do without the instrumentals--but it's damn near close.

If you couldn't tell, I like pretentious freak music. And I love Coltrane. This is the best of both worlds.

Her best, which is saying something. Pastel Blues might peak higher at the end, but there's not another vocal jazz record out there as consistently superb as this one.

"Voodoo Child" and "All Along the Watchtower" are superb tracks, sure, but some of the 10+ minute behemoths here really are something.
