A let-down from the run in Nick Cave's discography with The Bad Seeds the last decade. Push The Sky Away, Skeleton Tree (!!!!) and Ghosteen are all good albums at the end of the day, each had something different in their DNA. Carnage though.... eh... has not so much DNA; it feels dry. It's almost as Cave didn't try but in the last few minutes add a pseudo-intellectual poetry-layer to all the songs to make them sound deeper than what they actually are (Hand of God and Shattered Ground (bad song) comes to mind). Though with the vivid exceptions of the highlights Albuquerque and Lavender Fields, that feels more authentic and a bit closer to 90s Cave. This should have been a 2-song single, leading up to something with more substance than the rest of Carnage. [First added to this chart: 05/26/2025]
