Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 70.2/100, a mean average of 67.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 68.1/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 20.5.

Whilst it is interesting to have the public rather than mere music critics compile a list, the methodology is flawed.

Firstly, having the station make the choices would exclude many whole genres that may have been popular with certain sections of the British public at the time. Second – as I love to emphasise – the public is not likely to know as much about music as a small number of specialised critics or even musicians do.

Not a fan of the methodology. The critics choose 125 personal favourites and the viewers rank. Are the viewers that dumb they can't come up with their own albums?

The list has some oddities (Madonna, Dido), but it's actually not as bad as I remember it (I distinctly recall cursing at the television more than once).

This is a great unbiased public view of what British people think. Why I always go with public votes and not one's made up by magazines. OK computer has to be top, but now I think Radiohead have Kid A and In Rainbows should be in there. The Beatles always have too many up the top for me, but can't argue with the public. As this is 2005 I think that Muse and some other albums would make the list in the future.

A good representation of what the genral public consider great which is why you get dire straits queen Coldplay and madonna high in list. Fair enough. This to me makes it quite interesting compared to a list compiled by some trendy mag.

Oh, 28 albums in common! Great, that should be ... oh my god ... what ... what is this? Seriously all 35 points here are for One Step Beyond because no one has that on a chart, but what on earth is the rest of this doing here? I mean, yeah, 27 other albums are goo, but basically the entire rest of the chart is just ... just garbage.

U2, Michael Jackson, Oasis, Madonna, and Guns n Roses all above REVOLVER? Seriously?

This may be the worst recognized list I've ever seen.
