Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.3/100, a mean average of 76.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.4.

Having thoroughly mined The Replacements entire catalogue and squeezed every bit of juice from that gem it's time to go solo starting with Westerberg's '14 Songs' (note 'Singles Soundtrack' to follow even though it was released before 14 Songs)
Timeline
04/09/90: 'All Shook Down'.."Replacements" final album released
30/06/92: 'Singles Soundtrack' released
15/06/93: '14 Songs' released
And my opinion of '14 Songs' ? Not too bad , not too bad at all !! A very pleasant surprise
Album highlight for me was the crunchy riff driven "Silver Naked Ladies" clearly inspired by the wonderful "Shooting Dirty Pool" from 'Pleased To Meet Me' , followed by "Runaway Wind" , the 1.40 track "Even Here We Are" recalls memories of "Skyway" (Awwwww) and closer "Down Love" with its anthemic chorus
It would be remiss of me to not mention a couple of misses in the awful "Dice Behind Your Shades" and whilst the subject matter for "Black-Eyed Susan" is important musically its rather flat
It's such a shame this wasn't The Replacements final album and who knows what could have happened? But that's The Replacements isn't it ?
I'm one of the lucky few consumers who went out and purchased Westerberg's 'debut' solo album (some would argue that "All Shook Down" by the Replacements was his solo debut). I was delighted by his continuing snarky lyrics, rocking tracks and a maturity that he ws growing into. The song "First Glimmer" is one of my all time favorites. My wife and I danced to it at my wedding.
After the breakup of The Replacements, singer Paul Westerberg, an early influence for Kurt Cobain, released 14 Songs, his solo debut. It's a very cohesive and listenable album. "Knockin' On Mine" should have been a hit, but no one seemed to want Westerberg without the rest of The Replacements. There are acoustic songs and punk raves here, and the lyrics are great. Westerberg has been recording solo since, but his album sales still pale in comparison to his old band. 14 Songs is a treasure you probably haven't heard, and it's well worth a listen.
