Top 50 Greatest Music Albums by seraphlaim
Listing specifically the forty best albums you've ever heard creates an existential crisis in that you are forced to realize that many of your favorites are not among them. However, as best I can this list is in fact what the site calls for. I have set aside as much of my subjective ideas as possible, listened to a lot of music I hadn't listened to in a long time and detailed my opinion, as unbiased as possible, here. I welcome cheers or jeers. Thanks.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 82.3/100, a mean average of 79.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.6/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 10.8.

A diverse chart - Reich to Michael Jackson. Somewhat of a curiosity with too many Beatles for my taste.
this is a clever list, well done! (:
i second that request.. for gods sake GIVE US 10 MORE! GIVE US ALL 10 MORE PICKS AND PUT US OUT OF OUR MISERY!! i'm getting through half my valium prescription every day, waiting shakily on the edge of my seat to see whether you prefer leonard cohen to carole king!
I got a rating 4 points above harvos's average. I'm so vindicated!
Thanks for the rating and the comment. Reading your intro, we seem to have similar qualms about making a chart. Something like The Woods wouldn't be so high up on a longer chart, but I gave it a spot to keep things interesting and give an idea of some of the new stuff I'm into. It's about compromise when you have 40 slots. There has been some talk of charts going higher soon. When that happens, I'm interested in seeing some more of your other picks, because you have good taste and we have some common ground, in more obvious instances like Pet Sounds and less obvious like Different Class. All in all, great chart.
Too Beatles-heavy for my taste, but a really good chart.
