After some modification, I've finally put together a coherent top 50. The crieria upon which the selection is based on are the concepts, execution and performance, and the strength of the songs, both lyrically and the song structure.

You'll notice I've put ABBA on top of my list. For many its controversial, but its my concession to art as beauty.
As the poet says: Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know!
Specifically feminine and melodic beauty to counter-balance the gravelly voices of adolescent male disenchantment. The themes and subjects on the Visitors and the Album may not be gritty, but neither are they banal or hypocritical. This is a singing group, and the voices are spectcular in both their beauty and their integrity.
