Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. I like it especially the top 10 good choice. The other albums are special kind oft art and for me i like that you have german artists in this chart so 80 points.

There's a lot to love about this chart, but can we just pause for a moment and appreciate what a great album Time (The Revelator) is? The Gillian Welch/David Rawlings partnership has produced a lot of great music, but that album in particular is so great because it continues the Appalachian/bluegrass/Americana tradition they'd been doing so well, but brought it into a context drawing from Gillian's California roots, without sounding overly, y'know, California. "Revelator" is such a great song, a slow, subtle burner with so many layers of feeling. Glad to know you appreciate that album, too.
