Top 63 Greatest Music Albums

I like what I like, which happens to be a little bit of everything, and tend to be completely oblivious to what critics have to say and what's supposedly cool. I'm also not the type who's going to listen to something 100 times just so I can "get" what some others (or critics) think is so great about it. I've tried that before and was just kidding, and sometimes torturing, myself. If something doesn't move me or grab me after 3 or so listens, it's not likely to ever work for me. And there's not a damn thing wrong with that. We all have our own tastes. I can also appreciate innovation or an artists' talent yet still not enjoy listening to their music.
You can probably gauge from my list that I am indeed a 90s child. Grunge / alternative is what I love the most. Radiohead, who are almost always flat out amazing, have been my favorite band since OK Computer was released back in 1997. Garbage, one of the most undervalued / underrated groups of the past 25 years, would be a close second. They are among but a few whose albums I can listen to front to back because they're so well written and so intricate and layered that I pick up fresh nuances each time I listen. Thank God both continue to tour and still put out great music.
I'm still catching up on a lot of classics. Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin were always favorites. I'm working my way through The Beatles, The Who and Rolling Stones catalogues as we speak but have found, much to my surprise, The Zombies Odessey and Oracle is thus far my favorite 60s album. Also trying to catch up on a lot of newer stuff, though that's proving to be less to my liking for the most part. And I'm saying that as I'm sitting here listening to and enjoying The War on Drugs' "Lost in a Dream" so you never know with me.
So, these are my genuine favorite albums. This is definitely not going to be the most "original" list on here nor filled with obscure artists and albums that will prove how unique and out-of-the-box I am or how quirky my tastes are. Whether something's commercially successful and well known, or not, is something that has no impact here whatsoever. At first I said I was going to limit this to no more than 2 albums per artist but then I said screw it. I'm just going to use this space to put down what I love and do other charts by year later on once my ranking increases.
Notes:
- I plan on writing up all of my picks. Still workin on those. And though my Top 5 is pretty set in stone, the rest I'm going to reorder once I decide what 100 I'm going to include.
- My favorite 60s song is "Runaway" by Del Shannon but I can't in good conscience list the album itself because the rest ain't so great.

The best hard rock album ever? In my opinion, yes. Even though some of my all-time favorite Zeppelin songs are on other albums of theirs, this one's the most consistent too me. There are simply no duds here, though "The Battle of Evermore" and "Four Sticks" aren't quite up to the others IMO. And if you're one of those people who's sick of hearing "Stairway to Heaven" so much, sorry bout that. I never tire of it and probably never will.

As a kid, I listened to this and my classmates teased me about it. You know, because I wasn't listening to Vanilla Ice or MC Hammer instead. I think I got the last laugh there.

I doubt this will ever be topped in the pop / rock realm when it comes to a bunch of individual album tracks bleeding into one another to form one cohesive movement of music. Have you ever tried to break this up into separate song files and put them through the shuffle with other music by artists? All that accomplishes is making you stop the shuffle and play the full album.

If you think "Old Man" is one the best songs ever written / recorded then - congratulations! - you are correct. Thankfully the rest of this album is also great, with songs like "The Needle and the Damage Done" and "Heart of Gold" among Young's best work. Songwriting here is excellent, the harmonica parts are sublime and Young's voice has this amazing ability to be emotive, fragile and almost painfully sincere without ever feeling manipulative, forced or strained. I was originally gonna cheat and put his greatest hits "Decade" on here but that somehow didn't seem quite right.

I liked Eric Clapton's song "Behind the Mask" and also liked Michael Jackson's version of the same song. And then I learned it was swiped from this Japanese electronic band so I decided to listen to the album and the rest is history. Still need to explore the rest of their discography.
