Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by mrmcrook

A best album for me is an album in which every song is an absolute gem (with the exception of maybe one mediocre track). An album of brilliance and enjoyment from start to finish.
Not ones with a half dozen epic tracks, the other half nothing but filler.

I realize my chart has a lot of compilations and many people believe compilations shouldn't count. The reason I have included them is so I can add a few bands/artists that have fantastic music and should be recognized. Otherwise the list will be hugely dominated by a dozen bands that everyone knows has a huge number of worthy albums. Hence why the large amount of compilations and live albums.

Any footnotes are just personal ramblings for my own entertainment.
And to remind me of the joy the music brings before all memory is erased.

Another early introduction for me into the world of rock that paved the way for musical preferences. I was one of those obnoxious pricks that went round school reciting the Vincent Price part of Black Widow all the time. I thought I was so neat. What a prat.

I've entered this instead of any of the studio albums as this has the best overall collection of there songs. Better than any 'Best Of' album they have. The 'hits' are on it of course but it also has a great deal of the other finest cuts from the albums. I played this during a 2 hour car journey I had with my mother (Barry Manilow was her cup of tea). To my surprise she really liked it. The wonders of music never cease. Absolutely love this. Only had Vitalogy before getting this. Since then I have acquired another 7 studio albums. Some of them are fantastic (Ten, V's) but I think most have to high a ratio of just average songs. Hence why I love this. Everyone's a winner baby, that's no lie.

Yet another masterpiece from Alice. Again, all killer, no filler. During the early 70's this man was just on fire. His series of albums during this period are the most under rated within the rock world. A fantastic addition to any collection for rock fans. [First added to this chart: 09/22/2020]

A magnum opus. This album is full of perfectly constructed tracks which segue brilliantly into each other. A masterpiece in it's own right. [First added to this chart: 09/22/2020]

I'd never even heard of these guys prior to coming onto this site. Being rated so high I gave it a listen on Spotify, thought it was alright and managed to track myself down a copy. It took a few listens before it fully clicked with me as I initially found the vocals a tad grating. Now I find it very addictive and have it on high rotation.
The sequencing and seguing from one song to the next is total perfection. An absolute true gem of an album.

I feel a tad guilty having this so high in my chart. I knew a fair amount of FNM songs but this was the first of their CD's I got. Fantastic compilation. Full of all the gems and more. With them all collected together it makes you realize at just what a fucking great band Faith No More are. [First added to this chart: 09/18/2020]

The interesting thing with this album is that there's nothing that's specifically unique or different than other albums from this genre. Nothing that really sets it apart in some original way.
Yet it's so fucking brilliant. The melody, vocals, song structure of every song on this makes it one of the best albums from this era. Outstanding and it deserves more recognition than it gets.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 3% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.4/100, a mean average of 90.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 90.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.2.

Me gustan los charts que incluyen notas para justificar la inclusión de los álbumes.
No soy muy fan del Heavy Metal pero viendo tu chart, tomaré algunos de los álbumes que seleccionaste para darle una oportunidad al género

English review
I like charts that include notes to justify the inclusion of the albums.
I'm not a big fan of Heavy Metal but looking at your chart, I'll take some of the albums you selected hoping I'll like "metal" even a little

I moved into Myles Heskett's (wolfmother) old rental some years back. Am no longer there but I used the bungalow that was his drum studio as my own sound design studio; cool guy and cool music. I love how personal this chart is too, including things like the bad seeds comp makes perfect sense when you rationalise it that way.

Good to see the Aussie & NZ bands/albums get a mention - but then again, we would be inclined that way given our geographical position on the planet. I respect your musical preferences even though we have travelled down very different musical routes. Loved seeing Jethro Tull's 'Aqualung' squeeze into the top 100.

Lovin some of those choices, fellow Aussie. Great writeups, and some of those albums - absolute bloody belters - I feel exactly the same way about!

Definitely a good chart. A lot of the same choices as mine. But I like the additions of The Dead Kennedys, Monster Magnet, QOTSA, and Lacuna Coil, among others.
