Top 10 Greatest Music Albums

Not necessarily in any particular order, but still in relative succession none the less. Mostly rock focused because they aren't many good 'albums' for electronic dance music or art music like classical.

Life-changing album, a true relic of my youth that helped eventually change me into the person I am today. I can recite every lyric and note from the first strum on I Will Dare to the very last phone ring on Answering Machine. Snuck backstage after one of their reunion tour shows to get my cd of this signed, one the most fond memories I'll ever cherish. I love the deluxe version as well because of the shocking amount of cut tracks from the original recording sessions. You just don't get it, man, you never will.

Not even necessarily this one particular live album by them, you can take any other high-ranking shows they've recorded and put it here instead and I'd be satisfied all the same. Nothing but appreciation for live bands that grasp their own form of music by the neck and make it something that can expand and twist and turn at every opportunity they can utilize it. People who shit on this band have no idea what they're talking about most of the time, they outclass the vast majority of rock musicians without even going out of their way to.
As much as I loved this album, I can only very rarely listen to it. I've never heard music before that perfectly captures sadness and depression like this. I don't mean that "oh I'm kinda bummed out and depressed" kind of 'depression,' I mean that 'can't get up or move your body at all that's how pressing this debilitating condition is' real ass depression that only a certain amount of people can say they've experienced. Music that can provoke such an intense feeling is not only rare, but downright scarce. That's why I appreciate it for what it is.

This is just the first live Dead album that came to my head that I fondly remember loving. But like with Phish, you can easily replace this with a multitude of recordings available out there. Hell, even recently I've been really enjoying the Dead & Company live releases as they offer a different glimpse at to how these timeless songs can be recreated over and over and over and over again yet STILL somehow sound fresh every single time. I might like a few other bands more for one reason or another, but the MUSICIANSHIP of the Dead is fucking unmatched. I'll stand by that till the day I die, no group of rock musicians have even touched the kind of things this band were (excuse me, ARE) still capable of creating right before your very eyes. I have a massive respect for live music and the things this band creates in that realm is the cream of the crop, bar none. Like I said before, anybody that shits on this band typically has no idea what they're talking about, although I agree with a handful of folks that sometimes you just want a heavier sound with your jams, that's what Phish and a massive amount of similar bands are for.
Most of how I described Electro-Shock Blues can apply to this album as well, although not nearly as devastating and a lot more personal on my part simply because of my history with this album and the artist in particular. I associate this album with many moments of my life where I had to grow up and be the bigger person in a given situation, it's not something that can resonate with anyone and because of that, I understand why it's not commonly put among the best albums ever. But there is something that Westerberg is capable of creating that very few, if no other, sing-songwriters also can replicate. Very hard to describe, but it's a very real emotion.
The pinnacle of jazz music. I'm gonna shut up now cause unlike popular music I don't like to insult the great artistic minds of art music with my diatribe about how my life was changed by their music that was not intended to have an impact on such. I still love it more than most things, though, that's gotta count for something, right? Whatever.
MYYY VIOLLEENNCE Give me that crunchy, harsh jammed out guitar fuzz goodness. That is my favorite thing about SY, way more than any of their vocal contributions or lyrics (blegghhh) but like always, it's the music itself that saves the days. It's one of those things that you can put on for a long walk or road trip and it sucks you in so tight that you arrive at your ultimate destination wondering where the time went. The reason why this album is above Daydream Nation or Evol or whatever is because of their focus on those long groovy jams that this band is particularly phenomenal at but don't actually utilize much on their studio recordings (live music to the rescue once again, living on nowadays as part of Thurston's act because Kim and Lee prefer to be all experimental and shit instead of good)
