"One of my favourite singles bands, it's only relatively recently that I've really started listening to their albums. This is their punk-pop beginnings and its a superb start, although probably not one for the listener who likes their more melodic later offerings."  Reply

""This is a largely melody-based album- Its purpose is to find its way into your brain and stick there. There are piano hooks, lush vocal harmonies, and easily-clappable drum beats. There are cheesy lyrics, dated 70s moments, and clean production. Here on BEA we typically see those aspects as detr..."  [+]  Reply

"I revise my rating... For those of you having a hard time getting into this, this album was written when Kozelek's long time girlfriend, Katy, had died of cancer at age 35. Heron Blue is about her slow decline in health. A lot of the songs are joyful remembrances of her. Now try to get through th..."  [+]  Reply

"I'll always give this album extra credit because I played it to death in high school. It seems they never matched this. Don't assume it's only Runaway Train. There's plenty of catchy alt-rock here. Too bad they were overshadowed by Seattle."  Reply

"Current rap and pop stars can try to brag about how hard they are, but this man not only lived "the life" but bragged about it every moment he could. Pretty much the only things on Rick James' mind are where he's getting his next drink, his next line, and his next girl. He can afford to do this b..."  [+]  Reply

"This album is the result of a grueling amount of crap that Matthew Houck (aka Phosphorescent) had to go through following the release of “Here’s To Taking It Easy". According to him, he lost his girlfriend, was worn down by the road, and lost his place in New York. It had worn him down to almost ..."  [+]  Reply

"A great follow-up to Drunk Tank Pink. The record starts off strong (and fast) with Fingers of Steel and Six-Pack, before transitioning into Yankees, a slower-paced track that continues to grow on me more and more. The band also showcases some nice variety with songs like Adderall and Orchid. I th..."  [+]  Reply
