The Avalanche
Compilation
"The fact that The Avalanche is a collection of outtakes and B-sides from Illinois--and that it's this good--lends some perspective on how good an album Illinois is. At the time he was writing and recording all this music, Sufjan Stevens must have been on one of those creative highs that one exper..."  [+]  Reply

"First album of brand new material from Elvis for eight years. Leading up to the release of the album talk has been about the record being a meeting of, Imperial bedroom, and, Painted from memory, and I can see that but it's the latter it's closer too for me. Opener, Under lime, is great and sets ..."  [+]  Reply

"Laura Mvula's debut is a welcome breathe of freshness different from Jill Scott & Erykah Badu, whom she lists as influences but there are some similarities. There is also a bit of Bjork in the orchestration. Not a bad track here the standout tracks being Sing To The Moon, Green Garden, She, What ..."  [+]  Reply

"This is the album that introduced me to Alanis properly. I knew her hits before but they were unlike most of what I discovered on this album, and is a surprise to everyone else I have shown as well. This album is the perfect balance between the electronic and the organic in production, and wonder..."  [+]  Reply

"Certainly, the first half of the record is considerably stronger than the second, but it is a very pretty and elegant experimental album by Ryuichi Sakamoto that's definitely worth a shot."  Reply

"This album has good vocals, good music, good arrangements. However, it seems to be lacking a certain something. I have the nagging feeling I should be rating it higher than I do as it's a decent album but it sounds like it has to much of a commercial polish. A slightly rawer touch would of suited..."  [+]  Reply

"Amazing album from Future Islands. Crystal Clear production from John Congleton, phenomenal synth and bass work that propel the tracks forward and who can forget the majesty of Sam Herring's vocals. The live drums they've incorporated on this album give it a beefier and more bombastic feel which ..."  [+]  Reply

"Really playing into my love of Jason Molina here, this is straight up another Magnolia Electric Co., just a little louder. Also, the production on this is near perfection, the clarity and space around every part is immaculately executed."  Reply

Graffiti Bridge
Soundtrack
"Despite a new appreciation for this album, it is still my least favorite Prince album of his first two decades. I think part of it is a result of not really fully appreciating the handful of songs featuring other vocalists. I paid for a Prince album; not a Tevin Campbell, the Time, or Mavis Stapl..."  [+]  Reply
