Can an album released in 2013 legitimately be called "classic rock"? Or do we need the lens of time to allow us to look back and determine whether or not it deserves "classic" status? Whatever you want to call Round & Round--roots rock, Americana, blue-eyed soul--its influences are readily apparent. Otis Redding. Creedence Clearwater Revival. Van Morrison. This is an ambitious line of artists to try to emulate or treat as peers, but Mike Clark and company do it credibly here. My favorite track here, "Honey," invokes these early rock and soul influences, while adding a pinch of the introduction to Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun." A combination that works beautifully.
