Roots rockers the Deadfields are one of the many bands I first heard at the Albino Skunk Music Festival in South Carolina, and among several that I saw there more than once. The second time I saw them--probably in the fall of 2013--I couldn't believe how much they'd improved since the first time; they were much tighter as a band, more confident, with better songs. I'd have given them my personal award for "most improved band" between live performances I'd seen. This was the album they were supporting at the time, and I had the opportunity to tell bassist Chase Alger after their set how good I thought they sounded. These guys are as humble and down to earth as they come. I'm especially fond of the title track from this album, named for a silly catchphrase that lead singer and principal songwriter Geoff Reid used to use, which deftly illustrates the band's own self-deprecating and distinctly southern musical style.
