Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)

This artist is rated in the top 1% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 83.8/100, a mean average of 82.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 83.9/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 17.2.

A good - sometimes great - band that helped shift the rock scene. I'd probably place them in my personal top 30, but they definitely wouldn't be in my top 10.

A non-traditional trio that funnelled tradition through their irregular slit and created a new paradigm for mainstream music that has since been abandoned. Maybe there'll be another, but I doubt it.

Like a large star, they burned hard and died quickly...But their musical output in that too short time will live forever as some of the best ever produced.

Kurt Cobain has a nice voice and they made some pretty good songs.

The Unplugged and Reading albums are two of the greatest live records ever released, although I do think Nevermind is a tad overrated

At the time (early nineties) I wasn't really into the whole grunge hype. Of course I heard the singles, thought they were ok back then. Later on (early 2000's), when I broadend my musical taste, I re-discovered some bands, like Nirvana. Listening to them now, you can still hear why Kurt Cobain is considered such a talent, although I doubt their music would have been as strong as 'Bleach' and 'Nevermind' if they made more albums than they did.
Still, their influence can still be heared in today's rock

I don't think any other band has conflicted me as much as Nirvana have over the years. At one point, I thought Nirvana were the best band from the '90s and easily the best grunge band of all time. At another, much later point, I thought they were overrated beyond belief and "a poor man's Pixies."

Nowadays, I just consider them to be a solid band overall. I believe that Layne Staley-era Alice in Chains were the best grunge band but Nirvana are not that far behind. For as overplayed as Nevermind is, I still find some of the singles and the more "deep" cuts from it like "Polly" and "Something in the Way" to be highly enjoyable listens.

In Utero and the MTV Unplugged live album are their best work imo and those are the albums that I would recommend to someone on the fence about Nirvana's music. I always wondered what their music would've sounded like had Kurt Cobain still been around but it's just one of those what-ifs in life.

So, in short, a solid band that wrote some solid music. Nothing more, nothing less.
