Top 50 Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Albums ratings
Average Rating = (n ÷ (n + m)) × av + (m ÷ (n + m)) × AVwhere:
av = trimmed mean average rating an item has currently received.
n = number of ratings an item has currently received.
m = minimum number of ratings required for an item to appear in a 'top-rated' chart (currently 10).
AV = the site mean average rating.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 79.2/100, a mean average of 72.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.5/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 16.2.

Kiss are a heavy make-up band, not heavy metal!
Lots of essential stuff is missing, including whole subgenres like progressive metal, thrash metal or death metal. Also epic acts like Motorhead, Fates Warning, Megadeth, Slayer, Tool, Death, Pantera, Mercyful Fate or System of a down. For a metalhead this list is quite disappointing because it does not rudimental represent the metal genre in a reasonable way.
Where's the Megadeth?? Haha, I just say that because they're my favorite. Great chart. But I at least think they're Countdown to Extinction or Youthanasia could have made the list. They were commercial hits. All in all, you've done a good job and have a good collection, but like TheHolyKiwi said you could use some more variety.
I'd like to see more variety, like in the genres, bands, decades. This list is mainly full of classic bands, I'd love to see bands like Deftones, Tool, System of A Down, Mastodon, Opeth, Electric Wizard, Kyuss, Agalloch etc.
I guess you get what I mean now.
Nice list! This is probably the best Metal/Hard Rock ranking I have been able to find.
Great hard rock chart. I'd put these albums on repeat, and I'd be set in the hockey locker room for 2-3 seasons.
