Hmmm, my #1 is Bowie and also have albums by Talking Heads, Kraftwerk, Cheap Trick, Peter Gabriel, Elvis Costello, Iggy Pop, Pink Floyd, Rush, Ramones and a few other "hip faves" on there so it isn't like I completely avoided everything that happened in rock in 1977 just to boost some pop divas (scuse me, I'm a gay man lol). Excuse me if I might not be a Sex Pistols fan (I respect their place in history and their spirit, but I just wasn't a fan of their music, sorry...) and that I actually like some disco, Donna Summer's albums during this period are heralded as classics ya know and the dance community practically regards those albums as holy, anyone who follows electronic music knows how important her works with Giorgio Moroder were, especially circa 1977 when she was putting out I Feel Love and Now I Need You... People's lists should reflect the music thats in their collection (I have all 40 albums in my collection) and the music they actually like and not just follow the crowd norms of what makes you look cool to namedrop... when I was a teen I would've never been caught dead liking disco and soft rock, I'm in my 30s, I don't care about not looking hip just because someone is elitist and looks down on someone for liking Billy Joel or ABBA. And like said, there's enough "socially acceptable" artists on the countdown to make up for artists you feel too cool to enjoy. 70's pop music is better than todays pop by a long mile at least. And still, at least 7 of the top 10 albums are generally "acceptable" albums to most critics and so-called "cool music listeners", so it isn't like I was placing Debby Boone or someone that bad above Talking Heads or something as ridiculous as you were insinuating. The "shitty pop singers" in my list are all legends in their own rights and artists that you might not like, but you can't claim were one hit wonders or flukes. And like said, its just my opinion as someone who has listened to music over 30 years to know what I like and what I don't more than someone else who thinks I should put a band I don't even like at #1 just because it's "the" definitive album of 1977 to most critics and hipsters.
