Mary (from the bus) did her own ranking in 'Packard Goose':

“Information is not Knowledge
Knowledge is not Wisdom
Wisdom is not Truth
Truth is not Beauty
Beauty is not Love
Love is not Music
Music is THE BEST”

I think she got it right.

Frank Zappa and especially this album is offensive to many people. In my opinion, Joe’s Garage brilliantly captures the absurdity of life. To others it is just juvenile humor.

This is a concept album, so I recommend you briefly read up on the story before you listen. It will only add to your potential enjoyment. Frank wasn’t just ahead of his time with some of this music. He may have been the first to satirize Scientology way back in 1979 as Joe turns to “Appliantology” in Act II to deal with a broken love life.

Every song here is underrated. From the opening, ‘The Central Scrutinizer’, you know this album is going to be weird and funky…and you just need to go with it. ‘Joe’s Garage’ is a remarkable song that seamlessly transitions from doo wop, to surf music, to hard rock, to fusion, and even to some futuristic (at the time) heavy metal licks. Frank even ominously predicts the autotune music era with the song's ending lyrics: “you will soon be dancing to ‘the white zone is for loading and unloading only’”.

‘Catholic Girls’ is the start of the offensive lyrics, that for some, overshadows the incredible music and vocals. Highlights include the deep bluesy groove of ‘Crew Slut’; the jaunty upbeat rhythms and melodies of ‘Wet T-Shirt Nite’; the raging fusion instrumental ‘Toad O Line’; and the anthemic ‘Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?’

Act I closes with the lovely ‘Lucille Has Messed My Mind Up’ that really shows off Ike’s range.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 3% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.9/100, a mean average of 90.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 90.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.3.

Splendid chart. Genesis reigns supreme. The Lamb is a formidable work. I also love screaming along to "It". One of the greatest songs of all time. They always knew how to end an album right (The Knife, Fountain of Salmacis, Los Endos, etc.).

Probably the chart I identify the strongest with, at least when it comes to the top 20. I've also been noticing Lamb on a lot of peoples lists lately, it's certainly an album that requires multiple listens to get and it gets better every time. I think Supper's Ready is still their best song, but Lamb is their best album overall. You got some crazy stuff out of left field too I wasn't expecting, so I better check some of it out! I've seen the Flaming Lips live yet I haven't cared much for their actual music.....I know, it's weird. I'm gonna keep trying though.

Interesting chart, with interesting choices, though I think its better to introduce more bands. Your descriptions show how much effort you put in your chart.

Very good chart, very good music.
My only criticism: I´d like to have more different artists and not too many albums of the same artists.
congratulations anyway.

Sure there might be a few albums here that aren't really my thing but I am really impressed with the effort you have gone into with your notes!! Some jazz and electronic albums sneaking in would up this to a perfect score from me!

Nice to see something by Joni Mitchell besides fuckin Blue. And Mars Audiac is indeed Stereolab best album.
