Top 76 Greatest Music Albums
by Music Manic

Still trying to find the right albums until I can get 100 albums here, then I'll further add proper comments for each album.
As usual, I'll prefer to put under-rated albums that are (or were) not available on this site, so people can hear new good music from around the world. Furthermore, +/-20 last entries are albums that I like so much but I have to lower their ranks for give place to other albums (i.e. below the Top 100 on this site).
Hope you can enjoy it. XD

The first album which introduced me to the Progressive Rock music. From the epic 4-movements title-track, to the mellow and philosophic lyrics of "And You And I", to the dynamic "Siberian Khatru'", it's surely one of the most ground-breaking Prog-Rock album which brings the genre to its peak popularity. Awesome! [First added to this chart: 01/24/2011]

Coldplay's most attractive, stylish, and unique studio album, and best ever made IMO. People may say that "A Rush of Blood to the Head" or "Parachutes" is their best, but until now no one can convince me to say so. Favorite (under-rated) tracks: Death and All His Friends (w/ The Escapist), Strawberry Swing, Yes (w/ Chinese Sleep Chant) [First added to this chart: 01/24/2011]

I considered it to be an album despite the official status as an EP, because it is also act as the companion to the album Viva la Vida on Deluxe Edition. An EP which deserve for a "mini-album" status for the great songs in it. Favourite tracks: Life in Technicolor II, Glass of Water, Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground, Lovers in Japan (Osaka Sun Mix). The album has a unique structure where the first 4 songs decreased in order of the songs' duration, but they push the album to full power with the magnificent title-track. It also gives a grandiose epic story and music as if Rock music has existed since Shakespeare wrote his plays =D. [First added to this chart: 01/23/2012]

There are some similarities between this album and Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water": 1. Those are their 5th and final album, and also their masterpiece, 2. They released their signature hit from those album ('Every Breath You Take' and 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'). And though there are many great songs from The Police that not originated from this album, but it showed the band as a compact, solid music act that cemented them as a Rock music legend, despite their short-lived career. Probably one of Yes' most under-rated albums after 90125 era, though there are many good songs in it, such as: Endless Dream, I Am Waiting, The Calling (Special Version) [First added to this chart: 02/12/2011]

A younger twin of its 1972 counterpart, Close To The Edge. If only it was released earlier, I think it would be much popular than CTTE (IMO) [First added to this chart: 02/07/2011]

Muse is a typical example of New Prog that brings new 'rules' to Prog music: Complex-themed albums but lack of lengthy songs. But they are amazing to remember that they were just three personnels with many improvisations similar to bands of for or five men. A good alternative for another experience with Beatles, though it's unfortunately not good enough compared to their previous albums. Standout track: It's All Too Much [First added to this chart: 09/16/2011]

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 78.5/100, a mean average of 76.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.1/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 19.7.

Wow. Fantastic chart! I hate the overall chart clones on the website, and this is very unique.

But yeah- Yes is one of my favourite bands, 2112 is my favourite Rush album, Animals is my favourite Pink Floyd, Viva La Vida and Synchronicity are high on my chart aswell...

Keep up the great work!

I agree with Zebra - this is unlike the usual Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, or Scaruffi charts that appear. I don't like much of the music, but I respect your taste.

Interesting chart. It seems to me very honest, like you're really listing your favorite albums instead of what Rolling Stone or Pitchfork want you to like.

Great chart! I agree totally with your views on "Viva la Vida". All of Coldplay's albums are noteable but "V l V" is definetly the best! Look forward to seeing the inclusions to this chart at a future date!

Yes, it is still too underrated compared to other albums. The only thing I don't like about the album is that the first half don't fit together with George Martin's orchestral scores. But still a pleasant listen all the way through.

Yes, you were right. Btw. quite rare to see yellow submarine as the 3rd best album, but it also has It's All Too Much, which is one of my top 10 beatles songs.
