I thought this unlistenable on first hearing, interesting on second and third, now one of my most played albums, ALWAYS finding something new and surprising here. Dissonance, action, sleaze, aggression. Also not suitable for those of a nervous disposition. [First added to this chart: 02/19/2016]

Back in the chart after a few years away, has become the beatles album that I play the most; the best ten tracks from this, plus "hey bulldog" might make one of the best albums ever. [First added to this chart: 10/15/2011]

Hurrah; in my line of work (am a quizmaster, presenter, m.c. amongst other stuff) I get to play background music at functions and in bars; you might be surprised at how popular this album is, a) with those old enough to va?guely remember it first time around, and b) with the youngsters who also like fleet foxes (me too, see elsewhere on this chart) and mumford & sons (who i just don't get at all). Also of course popular with (relative)oldsters such as myself. [First added to this chart: 10/14/2011]

A memory of listening to this album; while flying over the arctic circle on the way from the UK to Japan, many years ago, sun streaming through the windows, with "here comes the sun king" streaming through the headphones. A subjective memory will always cloud an objective judgement, i've no idea if this album would place as highly in my chart were it not for that fortuitous timing. BTW i'm still no fan of Sgt. Pepper's. [First added to this chart: 10/14/2011]

Am not as huge a fan of this album as many others on the site, and indeed around the world - but it does include the best pop song of all time, ever. God only knows. And it IS the best pop song of all time, ever, because I say so, so there. [top 100 track - god only knows] [First added to this chart: 10/14/2011]

Impossible to say when first heard this, as every track seems to be part of the background music that follows you around. Unlikely i'll ever get a chance to mention that to paul - as he's apparently a teetotaller; last time he was in one of the bars I frequent in london town, he suggested to the bar manager that they should stock more non-alcoholic beers. Good thing that he kept with the day job rather than go into the pub trade. [top 100 track - for no one] [First added to this chart: 10/14/2011]

Drifting slightly down my chart over the years, but that's just due to overfamiliarity. Have seen him live a couple of times, and i've been lucky, as he wasn't noticeably grumpy on either occasion. [First added to this chart: 10/14/2011]

This album would be higher up the list were it not for the dreaded drum solo on "do what you like". Not exactly ironic, but odd that the two eric clapton albums in my top 200 are this one, and layla, not a solo album or anything by cream (though disreali gears might have come close). Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.0/100, a mean average of 87.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 87.4/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.0.

Very good chart. The only criticism I have is it's a little heavy on the 70s. But there's a good variety of artists, only a handful of whom I question. Most are excellent musicians. Considering the strange hate that many members are giving to the very best album of Leonard Cohen covers that exists, your ranking of Jennifer Warnes at #3 is not only surprising but courageous - love it.

Would've liked this chart better if you weren't always putting down good (if popular) tracks! I think that since I'm a rock fan who didn't grow up during that 60s/70s/80s I don't have to deal as much with "overplayed" syndrome.

Despite having a different musical taste (though not so different as you also like albums that "hold together" as one and we share 18 artists) and being from different generations, I really enjoyed reading your chart and I love to see so many '70's albums, some I have never heard of, others I find key classics.
