"Just a kiss, just a kiss, I have lived just for this" The soundtrack to many of my journeys around america in 1992, the cassette nearly wore out. Just by virtue of travelling at the time, this is possibly the first "favourite album" of mine that I never actually owned a vinyl copy of. I still prefer vinyl. Think I played this every day for a fortnight on release. A barman at one of my local hostelries still has "paranoid android" on the jukebox whenever he's working; not standard fare for backing music in a pub, but no-one seems to mind. I've also heard it played on the in-house radio station at Morrisons supermarket. Don't know how that affects sales, either positvely or negatively.[top 100 track - paranoid android] [First added to this chart: 10/14/2011]

I visited seattle on a world tour in 1992, and reckon have cracked the reason for it being the home of grunge - or at least why the seattle sound sounds as it does. Beer, and coffee. Lots of bars in seattle, and coffee bars too, starbucks was founded there for example. You go to a pub/bar for a beer, and you get free coffee as well - as many free coffees as you like (or at least you did twenty-odd years ago). So you get drunk, and buzzed/wired from the coffee at the same time. That explains the sound. And the attitude. [First added to this chart: 10/14/2011]

Haven't played it for a while, might be due for a bounce up the chart again. But still prefer this to the more recent, and I wonder slightly if it might be more wilfully obtuse, material.

"There is a crack, a crack in everything; that's how the light gets in" Fantastic production, some rude lyrics, two of my fave songs ever, hope I have as much mojo if ever get to his age. But drop the last two tracks, would be higher up the chart without (and maybe in more other charts too). [top 100 tracks - the future, anthem] [First added to this chart: 02/19/2016]

Was playing this a lot when my dad died. Since then, i've sung "hallelujah" in karoake bars many times (hey i'm allowed, it's connected with my job sometimes), but not any more, at least not since that talent show on telly made the song "famous", gggrrrrrrr. And now hundreds of singers do it too. [top 100 track - lilac wine] [First added to this chart: 10/15/2011]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 18% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.2/100, a mean average of 88.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 87.6/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.0.

Very good chart. The only criticism I have is it's a little heavy on the 70s. But there's a good variety of artists, only a handful of whom I question. Most are excellent musicians. Considering the strange hate that many members are giving to the very best album of Leonard Cohen covers that exists, your ranking of Jennifer Warnes at #3 is not only surprising but courageous - love it.

Would've liked this chart better if you weren't always putting down good (if popular) tracks! I think that since I'm a rock fan who didn't grow up during that 60s/70s/80s I don't have to deal as much with "overplayed" syndrome.

Despite having a different musical taste (though not so different as you also like albums that "hold together" as one and we share 18 artists) and being from different generations, I really enjoyed reading your chart and I love to see so many '70's albums, some I have never heard of, others I find key classics.
